Philosophy & Ethics
Our Commitment
At The Hazeley Academy, Philosophy & Ethics includes the study of the major world religions (religious education) and looks at their similarities and differences.
Philosophy & Ethics is an integral part of the curriculum. It is a compulsory subject for all students up to the age of 18. Philosophy & Ethics supports students in exploring different beliefs, values, and traditions, fostering respect and understanding in a diverse society.
Curriculum Status
While Philosophy & Ethics is not part of the National Curriculum, it remains a statutory subject that we are committed to delivering. Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive, thought-provoking, and relevant to our students’ lives and communities.
Parental Rights and Responsibilities
We respect the rights of parents to make decisions about their child’s education. Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from this class, either in full or in part, without needing to provide a reason. If a child is withdrawn, it becomes the parents’ responsibility to provide alternative religious education or instruction.
In this case, an alternative programme of study and supervision will be agreed with the Assistant Principal. For all other elements of the curriculum, full engagement is expected.
