Business Studies

Curriculum Intent

Economics offers an engaging and inspiring provision that reflects the demands of a truly modern and evolving world of business, commerce and entrepreneurship. Learners are not only given the opportunity to develop an in-depth awareness and a natural curiosity of the business environment around them, but to actively spark their imagination and inspire their creative and commercial thinking as they develop their subject knowledge.

Economics explores how people, organisations, and governments make choices about allocating limited resources to meet unlimited wants and needs. Through this course, students develop a solid grasp of fundamental economic concepts and theories. Our goal is to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for the subject, helping students recognise its significant impact on both the economy and society.

We encourage students to connect their economic knowledge to real-world events at local, national, and global levels. They are expected to stay informed about current affairs and economic developments, gaining insight into the core issue of scarcity - how resources are used, what is produced, how it's produced, and who benefits.

Students will be challenged to investigate and critically analyse the world around them, applying theoretical frameworks to practical situations. They will learn to think like economists, proposing thoughtful solutions to societal challenges. The course also introduces multiple viewpoints on economic behaviour, allowing students to question traditional models and distinguish between theoretical assumptions and real-world outcomes.

This rigorous and vital programme is designed to build strong analytical and numerical skills, along with the mindset and attributes needed to navigate adult life and the professional world with confidence and responsibility.
